my wife is a closet sci-fi geek

so, my wife, being the amazing companion she is, watches battlestar galactica with me even though she really doesn’t like sci-fi stuff (read: she thinks it’s kinda lame.) well, together we’ve now watched the mini-series, season 1, season 2 and we have watched all but the latest episode of season 3. on the show, to add grittiness but not have censorship issues, the writers and actors use a made up curse word to shout at pivotal or volatile moments. that word is “frack”... and mandy has made fun of and mocked both me and the show over this cheesy made up word relentlessly for months now. but as of today she can no longer mock me. as of today she has knocked herself off her own high horse. and scene:

mandy is driving around bailey’s crossroads trying to find pier 1 imports. having never been to the crossroads before she is getting really frustrated since all the intersecting roads are just stupidly confusing. she then sees that she has just passed pier 1 and has to turn around. she then exclaims, in all frustrated seriousness, “oh frack!”

mandy, once sci-fi becomes a part of your life, the next steps are trade shows and costumes. et cetera.

Heh, that’s frackin’ funny.

That’s funny! I’ve just started watching BSG myself about a month ago or so… catching up by watching the DVDs from the mini-series through the remaining 4 or 5 episodes from season 2.5 (as of today).

I’ve only said “frack” once out loud. I remain ever-so aware of how geeky one might could sound when exclaiming that.

And, you’re right about Bailey’s X-roads—it is (as with many of Virginia’s roads) frackin’ confusing to get around!

frackn’ A!! pier 1 imports has some good quality stuff!! those kids that make the stuff have such little hands that enable them to do such fine, detailed, work.

Bailey’s Crossroads can’t hold a candle to Seven Corners, though. I frackin’ hate that place.

um… bailey’s crossroads is seven corners.

Monday November 13, 2006 The Undulating Penumbra

Well, yes and no. Bailey’s Crossroads isn’t the part of Seven Corners that I hate. The part of Seven Corners that I hate is the part where the seven roads intersect. Bailey’s Crossroads is a bit further out from that blasted intersection. Worst engineering of a roadway ever.

That CRAZY intersection at Seven Corners where 50 and 7 cross paths is heinous!
