mandy, from the main floor: “avery, it’s naptime.”
avery, from the basement, and angry about it: “no, it’s not!!”
cohen, from the basement: “mommy, just come down and get her.”

cohen: “can we play with our blue and purple balls?”
avery: “please!?”
me: “yes, but no kicking, no throwing, no bouncing them…” then under my breath, “and have no fun.”
cohen, slowly dribbling the ball: “like this?”
me: “yes.”
avery, smiling and dribbling the ball: ”...having no fun.”
